As part of ActionAid International, ActionAid Vietnam is one of the leading international non-governmental organisations working in the country with the objective of eradicating poverty by facilitating the process of empowering the poorest and excluded people with special reference to ethnic minorities and women. Started its operation in the mountainous province of Son La in 1989, after more than 15 years, ActionAid Vietnam has evolved to an organisation of national significance. At present, ActionAid Vietnam is working in 20 provinces through the country with a total of over 100,000 poor households directly benefiting from its programme activities. Various programmes are implemented in both long-term development areas (DA) and development initiatives (DI) with local and community-based partner organisations.
ActionAid Vietnam focuses its work on mobilising and empowering poor and excluded people so they can claim their rights and entitlements, as well as on enhancing their capability and collective voice to influence and shape policies, while holding government policy makers and other development actors accountable for decisions and programmes that affect the lives of people.
